DIY FELT HAIR FLOWERS

SUPPLIES :
FELT SHEETS IN COLORS OF CHOICE
HOT GLUE GUN /STICKS
SMALL ALLIGATOR HAIR CLIPS ( I RECOMMEND THE SMOOTH KIND NOT THE ONES WITH THE SERRATED TEETH)
FELT SCRAPS TO MAKE BASE

STEP #1 - CUT A SHEET OF FELT( IN COLOR OF CHOICE) INTO THIRDS LENGTHWISE...THIS IS JUST BASIC 4/$1 FELT FOUND AT MOST HOBBY /CRAFT STORES

STEP#2 - FOLD EACH STRIP IN HALF LENGTHWISE , YOU CAN EITHER RUN A STRAIGHT STITCH ALONG THE OPEN ENDS WITH YOU SEWING MACHINE TO SEW SEAM SHUT AND CREATE A TUBE( I JUST PLACED MY PRESSER FOOT EVEN WITH THE OUTSIDE OPEN EDGE)   OR IF YOU ARE A NON -SEWER YOU CAN GLUE THE BOTTOM SHUT WITH A THIN LINE OF HOT GLUE ...LOW TEMP GLUE GUN WORKS GREAT FOR THIS PROJECT

STEP #3- WITH SCISSORS CUT SMALL SLITS THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE TUBE CUTTING FROM THE FOLDED EDGE TO THE SEWN EDGE BEING CAREFUL TO NOT CUT THROUGH YOUR BOTTOM SEAM/GLUE

STEP#4 - WITH HOT GLUE GUN PLACE A SMALL STRIP OF GLUE BELOW YOUR SEAM ALONG THE BOTTOM AND BEGIN CAREFULLY ROLLING STRIP TOWARDS THE OTHER END TIGHTLY(SEE 4A BELOW ) , ADDING GLUE AS NEEDED TO SECURE THE ROLL , KEEP REPEATING UNTIL YOU HAVE ROLLED THE ENTIRE STRIP

STEP #5 - CUT A CIRCLE OUT OF A SCRAP PIECE OF FELT TO PLACE ON BOTTOM OF FLOWER , AFTER CUTTING I LAY IT ON THE BASE OF THE FLOWER AND TRIM TO SIZE :)

STEP #6- I THEN FOLD CIRCLE IN HALF AND MAKE TWO TINY CUTS WITH MY SCISSORS , I THEN UNFOLD AND THIS ALLOWS SPACE FOR THE HAIR CLIP TO BE THREADED THROUGH ...YOU WANT THE END YOU PUSH ON TO OPEN TO BE FACING UPWARDS

STEP #7- I THEN COVER THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOWER WITH HOT GLUE TURN CLIP AND FELT UPSIDE DOWN ( SO PART YOU PUSH IS POINTING AT FLOWER AND PRESS BASE INTO THE GLUE

VOILA HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS TUTORIAL...THESE FLOWERS ALSO MAKE GREAT BROOCHES , AND WREATH ACCENTS

  1. I think with your clear and helpful instructions, I could do this! For my doggie, actually - I love her to wear pretty things by her ears (she disagrees with the concept) - I'm going to make a St Paddy's Day one for sure and hopefully I can manage a Valentines if I hurry up!
