Good Monday Evening to all , hope you are staying warm , it has been bitter cold here in Ohio ! Expecting snow overnight tonight and single digit temps with wind chills below zero , and the Princess is wishing for a SNOW DAY tomorrow !!!
So, about todays title...that P ??? Well, it's NOT what you think ...
P IS FOR PAPAW!!!
Princess is a very LUCKY lil girl, she has 3 Super Awesome Papaws that she LOVES to Pieces, but today's post is about my Dad/ her Papaw Stevens.
You see MOST years for Christmas my Dad makes my Sisters and I a handmade wood gift from his woodshop/garage in lieu of purchased gifts, as he is an AWESOME woodworker by hobby. However this year for Christmas I contacted him and asked if instead of making me something for a gift( as I'm not only out of ideas, I'm out of space ) would he be interested in making a loft bed for the Princess as she needed a way to free up some floor space in her narrow room for her and friends to play and I financially just could NOT afford the OUTRAGEOUS prices stores ask for a loft bed !!
HE SAID YES!!!
So, the week before Christmas , I had my Mom take Princess to the hair salon while Papaw and I put together her new bed ! A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE FOR THE PRINCESS ! Needless to say she came home and was totally SHOCKED ! Papaw made her squeal with delight ,and smile from ear to ear, she even said " it was so beautiful that she could cry " . :) Papaw sure went above and beyond for certain !
In the time since it was assembled , she hardly ever leaves her room , and now all her friends have visited , approved and want one too ! We have also customized it some , which I will share in photo captions !
But , the REAL REASON for today's post was to not only share this great gift , but to share that I made curtains today for her bed( Yes I got up two days in a row) with a lil help from Mr. Chuck , I had to have him hang the brackets on the bottom of the bed , he moved my sewing machine to the counter so I could sew standing up and didn't have to bend to see what I was doing . I think they turned out pretty cute and Princess was THRILLED when she came home from school to find them finally done, as she now has a PERMANENT BLANKET FORT !!!
The curtain was made from a teal $4 flat twin sheet , far cheaper than buying that much fabric , and it was the perfect size .
I am just thrilled to finally get them done , but that was the extent of my energy and pain meds today ! I hope you enjoy your visit and I look forward to visiting with each of you again soon ..and until we meet again ...I'll always be ...just a lil raggedy ! hugs

THE PRINCESS AFTER COMING HOME TO HER SURPRISE |
Under the bed on the back wall she has customized her "clubhouse" wall to make it her own , we also strung a strand of white Christmas lights under the bed for "magical" lighting |
we added this old shelf underneath at the head of the bed , which fit like a glove and was PERFECT for holding all her new Shopkins playsets |
Under the deck we added a tote for stuffed animals and dolls , and there is space for her doll beds too |

We are so blessed to have these Papaw's or in our family Papa and their wonderful craftsmanship?!
ReplyDeleteI love how Kaylee's surprise turned out....not having a little granddaughter to spoil it really made me smile to see her royal retreat. You guys did an amazing job.
Our Papa built a loft bed for our two grandsons (sorry no photo to share) but it turned out great, pretty generic and he used recycled wood from a job site he worked at. Our daughter has always been very frugal and resourceful so this was right up her alley. Top is a twin and underneath is a double futon.
She hung white lights underneath it too. A small crate for books and reading lamp is mounted on the wall. The boys are have always been great readers and it's part of their nightly routine.
Looks like our little ones are lucky kiddo's to have these awesome Grandpa's in their lives.
Sweet dreams.........
hugs,
Sheila
Blessed indeed , sounds like a few kids got presents they will treasure for years to come !
DeleteThat is absolutely adorable!!!! What a thrill for a happy little girl.
ReplyDeleteI would never want to leave my room either if I had a set up like that.

Earlene, Princess says you can come hang out in her "fort" anytime :)
DeleteOh what a magical realm for a princess! Glad you've been up and about some.~♥Amy
ReplyDeleteThat truly is a royal gift, and it looks even better then the expensive store-boughten lofts. That is a gift that is more than a gift - it's something that can just improve a life dramatically. To have a hideout and the magical lights and room to play - just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteO he far exceeded any expectations I ever had ,truly a treasure that will last her a lifetime .
DeleteThat is wonderful! I would have loved something like that when I was a kid and I bet my girls would have loved it too.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome bed your dad made as a gift for a princess indeed! Janice
ReplyDeleteMakes my heart smile to read this post... I know I saw the bed part earlier, but the finishing touches with the lights and curtains is nothing short of perfect! Fit for a princess indeed!! Lucky, lucky, girl that Princess K!! If she ever spies a crow in that kingdom of hers, tell her to be kind to it. ;o) Smiles & Royal Hugs ~ Robin
